Considering the five great institutions of our civilisation - Parliament, the judiciary, the police, the church and the media - and asking: Whom can we trust?
Yet despite the searingly earnest solemnity of this question, Carey’s warm series of observations about the state of our nation proved unexpected. Indeed, considering today IS a Sunday, it did feel akin to a non-denominational, non-politicised sermon, complete with gentle humours and asides.
Feel-good rather than spilled milk bruised, this was, if nothing else, an ‘alternative’ addition to the fierce and often angry commentaries that all of us are currently having to negotiate.
