Award-winning food writer Joanna Blythman talks to broadcaster David Freeman about how to make sensible and practical decisions about what you eat whatever your income. Blythman says food should be one of life’s great pleasures but we are bombarded by so many questions and facts that choosing it is becoming a chore. She cuts through all the talk to offer a practical guide to choosing, buying and preparing food that is tasty, healthy and affordable and that does not harm the environment, exploit producers or cause unnecessary animal suffering.
Blythman contributes to many national newspapers and magazines and broadcasts on food matters on programmes such as Women’s Hour, Farming Today, Newsnight, BBC Breakfast and Today. She is a five-time winner of a Glenfiddich Award, a winner of the Caroline Walker Media Award for Improving the Nation’s Health by Means of Good Food, and winner of a Guild of Food Writers Award.
