The preacher for this special service is Reverend Canon Mark Oakley, Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral. He read theology in London and Oxford, and has served in a variety of posts, including being Chaplain to the Bishop of London, Rector of St Paul’s Covent Garden, and Archdeacon of Germany and Northern Europe. He is passionate about the connections between theology and literature. He is the author of The Collage of God and has edited a book of John Donne’s poetry. In 2010 Sir Andrew Motion dedicated his poem In Winter to Rev Oakley, saying ‘it’s extremely unusual to meet anyone who isn’t a specialist who has such a subtle feeling for language as he does’.
