Sydney Chambers and Spike Sanguinetti are two different detectives working in totally different places. Chambers is the vicar of Grantchester and a 32-year-old bachelor and unconventional clergyman. Sanguinetti is a tax lawyer turned detective who lives in Gibraltar and whose investigations take him to exotic locations. What they both have in common is that they are new creations of writers James Runcie and Thomas Mogford. Chambers appears in The Shadow of Death, the first in a series of six Grantchester Mysteries by James Runcie, while Sanguinetti makes his debut in Thomas Mogford’s Shadow of the Rock and will soon return in The Sign of the Cross. Runcie and Mogford will discuss their approach to crime writing and their different detectives.
Runcie is an award-winning filmmaker, director of Bath Literary Festival and author of four acclaimed novels, including Canvey Island. Mogford studied as a lawyer and looked into practising abroad before deciding to write a series of thrillers set in the Mediterranean.
