Event duration: 1 hour 45 minutes
Location: Blenheim Palace, The Orangery
Split Second Productions returns to Blenheim with a ‘joyous and youthful’ production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
The performance gained four and five-star reviews when it was staged at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire including a four-star review from The Stage. This version is set during World War II and follows Benedick, Claudio and a band of returning soldiers as they visit the Duke of Messina and quickly fall head over heels for the Duke’s daughter, Hero, and his niece, Beatrice. Mishaps, misfortunes and multiple misunderstandings make this one of Shakespeare’s most charming and touching comedies.
Split Second Productions is a group set up by actors training at Guildford School of Acting. Actors from the school have appeared at the festival for the last six years. Their popular performances at the festival have included Two Earnest: A Reworking of Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare for Breakfast and Macbeth. Jaq Bessell returns as director of this year’s performance. Bessell is head of MA acting and head of postgraduate studies at Guildford School of Acting and has directed plays in New York, London and in regional theatres across the USA.
The performance lasts 1 hour 45 minutes with no interval.
