George Carey and William Kenney

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey and leading Roman Catholic bishop Rt Rev William Kenney take part in a wide-ranging discussion on their different approaches to faith and their perspectives on the challenges we face today.

Carey and Kenney will look at religious faith and give their views on how it can provide answers to the complex and often distressing problems the world faces today. What is the place of faith in a society that is increasingly secular and where latest analysis suggests those professing no faith outnumber those saying they are Christians? What does faith have to say about migration and its impact on Christianity and the British way of life, and what perspective does it offer on so-called ISIS and the conflicts tearing apart the Middle East and exporting terrorism to the West?

Carey was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991 to 2002. He holds a doctorate from King’s College London and, before becoming Archbishop, taught at three Anglican theological colleges. Kenney has been Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham since 2006. He studied and lectured in Sweden and spent 17 years as Auxiliary Bishop of Stockholm. He was president of Europe for the Catholic aid agency Caritas between 1991 and 199 and spearheaded relief to Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He is also a former head of the Vatican’s dialogues with the Lutheran Churches in Europe.
