Alexandra Curatolo joins us all the way from Sicily to lead this tasting of Marsala made by the oldest family-owned Marsala producer on the island. Curatolo Arini was founded in 1875 by Vito Curatolo Arini and its Marsalas are still made in the traditional way by the fifth generation of Curatolos. The Marsala Superiore is made with light wines from traditional Sicilian grapes grillo, inzolia and cataratto. These are then fortified with white grape spirit and aged for two years in a cask, resulting in a rich but dry, aromatic and heady wine.
The Curatolo Arini range includes five marsalas – Riserva Storico 1988, Superiore Reserve, Superiore Secco, Superiore Garibaldi, and Fine. The business also produces a range of still wines including the Coralto range made from white grapes inzolia and grillo and from the red nero d’avola, and the premium range Curatolo Arini made from grillo and nero d’avola.
